Australia and New Zealand Travel Goals

If I’ve learnt anything over the past year, it’s to stop putting off doing the things I want to do. In my case, it’s been travel. I’ve always been waiting for someone to come with me or to have ‘X’ amount of money in the bank or ‘Y’ job that let me travel indefinitely. But really, the only thing stopping me was myself.

With recent news that we’re looking at another year before international travel is back on the cards and being thrust back into lockdown, this rings true more than ever. We’ve been very lucky in Australia where Covid seems almost non-existent. However, even inter-state travel has been very on and off.

With all this in mind, I want to put my current travel goals list out into the universe in hopes that we can get back to travel soon. While I’m obviously still dreaming of a European summer and a road trip around Iceland, these goals are Australia and New Zealand based and likely achievable over the next 18 months.

Queenstown, New Zealand

Skydive in Queenstown, New Zealand

I’m sure many people have skydiving on their bucket list, but it’s never been something that’s appealed to me. This all changed when I visited New Zealand last year and decided if I was to ever skydive, it would be in Queenstown. The views are unbeatable! Since that trip, I’ve seen several people skydive and it’s become something I’d love to experience in my lifetime. I have a trip booked to New Zealand later in the year so NZONE Skydive, here I come!

Hike Roys Peak, New Zealand

I wanted to do Roys Peak last time we went to New Zealand but was scared off by reviews that it was a really difficult hike. At 16km return and a huge elevation gain, it is a difficult hike. However, I really regret not doing it because the views look incredible. I’m currently training and hope to tick off the hike during our next NZ trip.

Hike Hanson’s Peak at Cradle Mountain + Mt Amos at Freycinet National Park, Tasmania

Because I didn’t pre-plan much of our Tasmania Road Trip, there are so many things I’m itching to go back and do. We did the Dove Lake Circuit and what we saw of Cradle Mountain was incredible. There are several other hikes in the area, including the Hanson’s Peak hike which I’d love to do. I also want to do the Mt Amos hike at Freycinet National Park for panoramic views of Wineglass Bay!

Visit Uluru

Prior to lockdown, I didn’t have any urge to travel within Australia – thinking it was something I’d do much later in life. The pandemic has shown me how much there is to explore without taking an international flight. Now the trip that I’m obsessively dreaming of is one to the Red Centre! Earlier in the year I created an Alice Springs to Uluru itinerary hoping to do a trip in April. Sadly, after pricing it out, it was going to be way too expensive. The itinerary is waiting for us as soon as we’ve got the funds to do the trip. I cannot wait!

Travel Solo

I always imagined that after high school, I’d set off jetting around the world on my own. I’ve got many excuses on why that hasn’t happened yet, but now that I’ve got a remote job and work for myself, I have so much freedom to travel. I really want to prove to myself that I can travel alone. The only thing holding me back now is that pesky pandemic.

Seeing news everyday about new cases and ‘roadmaps back to normality’ is draining, but I’m keeping positive that travel is not too far away!
